We’ve put together a list of things we like (and some that we actually need!) to give you a few ideas – some fanciful, some practical.
- Dinner Party Accoutrements – we do love entertaining, so we’re planning lots of dinner parties when we move to the West Country… feel free to surprise us!
- Dinner Ware – in the same line as the above. We were going to put details up once we found a service we liked, but actually realised that we’re best off with cheap white plates for day-to-day usage as we’re both so clumsy. However, Jade collects Masons Green Chartreuse, which can often be unearthed in antique and charity shops, so we’d be very happy to add to her collection.
- Flower vases – all shapes and sizes welcome
- Scented Candles (Diptyque are a particular favourite!)
- A Landrover Defender – here’s one of the fanciful ones. Well, we can dream.
- Kittens, and/ or a Rottweiler Puppy – though we wouldn’t say no to the duckling either.
- Shotguns – we’ll be living in the country… a highly practical addition! Mind you, neither of us would say no to a blunderbuss or antique pistols if they’re going. Other shooting accessories very welcome.
- Bootscrapers – another countryside essential
- A bird table or bird feeders
- Bedding Sets – we’re still using linen purchased at the beginning of our university careers, long, long ago. This doesn’t seem right somehow.
- Throws and Picnic Blankets – the former for snuggling up under in-front of open winter fires, the latter for spreading summer picnics out onto.
- Photo Albums
- Antique Mirrors – you can never have enough mirrors
- London Theatre and Exhibition Tickets – no musicals thank you, but we’re certainly going to miss the theatre and arts when we leave London.
- Alcohol – we like our scotch smoky, and the more unusual liqueurs are particularly welcome

- Things made of wood – like this extremely useful Wassail Bowl
- The Prestonfield – our favourite hotel does gift vouchers!

It would be useful if you could leave comments at the bottom of this page when you decide on a particular gift, so everyone has a vague idea of what the other gifts are. This would be anonymous, as you all have the same log-in details, so just something like ‘we went for theatre tickets’ would be helpful to avoid everyone getting us theatre tickets for example (though, you know, the more the better!) We won’t peek, we promise.

John Lewis?
Mmmm.
Thought you’d like boiler suits from Mole Valley Farmers and wellies from Trago…what else could you possibly need living in Devon!
Uncle Karl and Saira xxxxxx
Nice try Mark.

After initial online purchases failed to manifest (after three weeks, nonetheless!), this guest has physically hunted through the listed grounds of London and returned with a big, juicy cache of picnic equipment.
