Things to See and Do

Cornwall is renowned for its golden beaches, beautiful countryside and fantastic seafood. It’s nearly always warmer there than the rest of the country, but it does seem to rain a lot as well, so come prepared! We’ve added links below to a few of our favourite beaches and places to visit. You really need a car here to get around, but we always use ‘ferries’ (boats, really) when we can, as it’s a lot more fun. We hope you’ll fall in love with Cornwall just as we did.

Beaches

  • Falmouth Beaches (Castle, Gyllyngvase, and Swanpool) – all lovely golden sand and turquoise water, and very close to Mylor.

  • Porthbeor Beach – a pretty little isolated beach, primarily frequented by locals (who mostly sail to it). You can drive, though it’ll take you an hour from Mylor, or you can get two short ferries from Falmouth to St Mawes, and then St Mawes to Place Creek. Last time we packed a picnic, grabbed a bottle of champagne from St Mawes in between hopping on and off ferries, and spent the day reading on the beach and swimming.

Porthbeor Beach

  • Porthcurno Beach – this is usually a lot busier than Porthbeor but it’s easier to get to, is absolutely huge when the tide’s out, and in an incredibly beautiful setting. Jade has a lot of fond childhood memories of building sand-castles and exploring rock-pools with her cousins Matt and Paul here. It’s also near the Minack Theatre and St Michael’s Mount, which are definitely worth exploring.
